Holiday! Nias and the World Heritage Status

Not many people realize that 16 November is the day of the World Heritage Conference. In this regard, the government adds to the long list of proposals to the Unesco world heritage status. In his press conference, Minister of Education and Culture, Muhammad Nuh said Indonesia proposed three proposals that the world's cultural status Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Noken crafts from Papua and the three guardians of Balinese dance that dance, dance bebali, and dance-balihan balih.
The proposal will be the talk of the government of Indonesia to UNESCO's meeting next year. Unfortunately no details of how to advance similar proposals have been submitted the previous year. So we do not know whether custom homes (Omo Sebua) will soon get the status as a world heritage.
Before the announcement was already there are 27 proposed world heritage site of Indonesia to the world's highest cultural institution. Traditional Village Bawomatoluo including one proposal. If the proposal is granted, then it becomes part of the world's wealth. Meaning of the object, such as Borobudur gets world heritage fund.
This is not a new program. The General Conference of Unesco has started on 16 November 1972. Since then many many special places such as forests, mountains, lakes, desert, building, complex, or city proposed to obtain the status of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.
At this time, in Indonesia there are seven World Heritage sites that are recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or the Organization of Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, including the Komodo National Park, East Nusa Tenggara (recognized in the year 1991), Ujung Kulon National Park, WA (recognized in 1991), Lorentz National Park, Papua (recognized in 1999), Tropical Rainforest of Sumatra, which consists of the Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat, Bukit Barisan (recognized in the year 2004), Borobudur (recognized in 1991), Prambanan Temple (admitted in 1991), and Ancient Human Sangiran Site (recognized in 1991).
Of course not all the proposals passed. Therefore need the support to pass any proposal. Bawomatoluo himself had won support from the Japanese government. It was announced at the meeting of Minister of Culture of Asia and Europe in the Asia-Europe Culture Ministers Meeting (ASEM) 4th at 9 to 10 September 2010 in Poznan, Poland. A total of 40 delegates from countries in Asia and Europe attended.
That status would be the hope of many parties in South Nias. Omo Sebua now in a miserable condition, according to an expert team of researchers combined several universities in Japan and UGM are now working there, very critical. If you want to menyelematkannya must be dismantled and dibangunulang.
"To fix the little things it takes tens of millions of dollars," said Mo. "arota Wau, or Ama Ana, manager of the old house that stood more than three hundred years ago.
Not many people bother on that condition. Some time ago the roof collapsed Sebua Omo. Until the fourth day of the South Nias Government did not also perform meaningful actions. That is a consciousness of obligation to maintain our cultural heritage. Not just the people of Nias, but also all citizens of this nation.
Unesco fund is not unlimited. To get away and get world heritage status of many that must be prepared. Not only the people who must prepare ourselves, local authorities and central government must also demonstrate its seriousness.
When finally Unesco refused, Omo Sebua care obligations remain. We inevitably have to rely on our own shoulders instead of other nations helping hand. Perhaps we see the seriousness Unesco first before determining its decision. Increasingly we ambai the Omo Sebua, increasingly distant world heritage status.
